Statement:
I’m fascinated by medical textbook photos and illustrations; particularly imagery of the most minute parts of ourselves; proteins, cellular bodies, etc. As I struggle to comprehend the complicated medical jargon, often frustrated, I find myself distracted by the shapes of the images that accompany the articles. Notions of science and the idea of reversal, coupled with the rhythmic beats of music inform my work and influence my choices of bold colors, patterns, and shapes. Words or phrases in songs are often jumping off points, in congruence with the aforementioned medical imagery. I take these concepts that confound me and reassemble images to create a new narrative in my own crude attempt to decode and decipher the human condition. As a piece progresses, I think about how all of the answers we seek are there, they exist, just waiting to be discovered. Or uncovered. Nothing is finite. Everything that is done, can be undone. This search for truth and clarity, like the artistic process, is a continuous cycle, never ending.
